Martha hosted our annual picnic at her lovely house, out in the country, set in a lovely garden, complete with frogs in the pond and dragonflies hovering about. As usual we feasted well, even though someone who shall remain unnamed forgot all the papergoods! Hmmm. Fortunately, Martha saved the day from her supply.
Among the yummies we had our favorite Spanish tortilla by Lydia, a very refreshing cold salad made with kernel corn and colorful chopped peppers, a salad that was delicious enough to be desert made with pineapples and something like whipped cream, mini-sandwiches, a bountiful fruit salad, chocolate cake, brownies, and more and more! Had too many second helpings! lol.
Show 'n Tell:
- Becky showed us her red elongated right angle scarf dome with Blue Heron yarn. It came out beautifully!
- Susan S. made a collection of hats for charity.
- Jeri is on a hiatus from knitting until her hands feel better. We were so glad she joined us for the picnic.
- Deb T. relished showing us all the goodies she won as the final Dances with Wool winner of the yarn crawl. Her treasures included a special and very room knitting tote bag with lots of outside pockets, each filled as part of the prize. She won kits, gadgets, needles and more. A well deserved win!
- Elaine K is working on a pink baby blanket to donate.
- Jennifer W. has her Building with Lace shawl almost finished!!!! She also crocheted a sunny yellow and white baby blanket.
- Newcomer, Emi, told us about Portuguese knitting when prompted by a question about the gadget fastened to her shirt with yarn lines coming from it. She modeled her "jelly roll" pink socks, a hat designed by Barn Yard Knits, called "A walk in the woods" in wool, shades of browns, greens and tan. Hope you become a permanent member, Emi, we really enjoyed meeting you!
- Corky showed us her finished, "City to Sand", shawl from The Yarn club, VA Beach, at our May yarn crawl. Lovely tropical colors for summer! She plans to donate it to her church to incentive-ize her group there to step up their charity knitting. She is also making progress on her Building with Lace shawl, having completed the beaded center panel.
- Marie couldn't join us as she's fighting shingles, but Corky showed us Marie's elongated right angle scarf in variagated peach and lavender shades. Awesome color combo!
- Elaine B finished her first "City to Sand" shawl in Blue Heron yarns blue- and green variagated. Now she's working on one in pink variagated for her daughter. She is also making progress on the Building with Lace shawl, expecting to have it finished in just a few more months, or sooner if this stifling heat continues!
- Mary modeled a lovely bias knit, turquoise, olive, and golden tan sweater with an asymetrical front. She also showed us an Aran sweater in teal, and her Michelle Hunter project from a cake with colors grading from grey, to lavender, to pink.
- Maria is still working on her teal Michelle Hunter shawl, done in Cascade Sport. She had us all ooh-ing and ahhh-ing over a felted olive bag, in a pouch style, that she will finish with the closing having a glass button. Interest was expressed in having a workshop on felting that pattern!
- Lydia was working on a baby blanket with self-striping yarn in white, turquoise, and light blue. Love that self-striping yarn!
Coming Events News for 2020:
There is a good possibility that Dances with Wool and Center of the Yarniverse will join forces to get together buses to carry interested knitters up to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. Many HKG members expressed interest in participating in that event if buses can be made available. Stay tuned for more info on that next spring.
Our picnic wrapped up with the drawing of door prizes. Everyone went home with something very cool! A note to Jennifer W.: since you had to leave early, we drew for you. Elaine B is holding if for you. :-)
