9-17-16 16 attending 56 Volunteer hours Old Business: Our first meeting in the Mechanicsville Presbyterian Church was very comfortable. We sat in the main room, which was really a half of the size it could have been, as they divide that space with sliding wall. In addition there is a smaller room, tucked off the main one, where we may meet often, as it is quite cozy, making it much more manageable for our speakers to be heard. We will be making a donation to the church, quarterly, for our use of the space.
We received warmly written 'thank you' notes from both Hanover Safe House and our county sheriff, David Hines, for the items we sent over last month. Sheriff Hines was so taken with the large dog, with the red scarf, that the canine is now living in the Sheriff's office! :-)
We have a newcomer, Barbara, with whom many are familiar from the Thursday Sit-and-Knit at the Knitting B. She is a most welcome addition. Renée recapped a group field trip, Aug. 25th, to Dirt Woman in Whitestone. The lively group had a great time, with no buyers remorse the next day though the cash register rang with a lively beat. We lunched in a great local cafe, with a wonderful and delicious menu. Great planning Renée.
New Business: Renée also shared info about the 2017 Virginia Beach Knitting Retreat, scheduled for Feb. 24-26. By this date, the spaces may all be filled, but if interested, email Renée to double check vacancies and other pertinent data.
Next meeting program has been changed. Instead of making Christmas ornaments, we will have a fashion show. Please wear/model/show-off your favority project(s).
Suggestion: Gene proposed that we do a 'knit-along' project, with all of us doing the same project, then donating the item to an appropriate charity. The idea was well received, and further supported by the hat Mary teaches in her Fair Isle program.
Points of Interest: There is a new yarn shop opened at Sycamore Square, on Midlothian Turnpike, called Dances With Wool. There is also a new one in Williamsburg, calledYarn Matters. We may just need to plan some field trips to check them out. Stay tuned!
Our annual Christmas party will be hosted by Renée, at her home, directions will be emailed closer to the date, Dec. 17th.
Show 'n Tell: -Deb B. showed her latest in a collection of family Christmas stockings, decorated with a 3-D Santa and all his accoutrements. Very impressive! -Elaine B. is working on family Christmas gifts too, this one a light blue baby sweater, with over-all design done with a variety of stitches and buttoned at the shoulder. -Elke showed us a huge collection of crocheted winter hats for a charity she supports. -Gene made the tiniest of baby sox in baby-boy blue-green variagated yarn. -Martha, who is just back to us after surgery, dressed two bears for our First Responders charity, and for herself, is working on a scarf in pinks and purple. -Suzanne T. showed us the most adorable , crocheted baby hat, shaped like a pumpkin, including a stem and leaves. She asks that anyone with patterns for embellishments, such as the leaves, to add to other projects, please share with her. She also had baby cuddle sack designed to look like a football, with matching hat. Too cute! -Marie P. is making a Malabrigo scarf for her daughter, and showed us the latest of her jewelry making collection. Quite sparkley! -Corky finished her mermaid tail afghan/sack, in aqua and green. It will be quite cozily warm for the wearer, but what a chuckle it would bring to see the process of wiggling into it.
