We kicked off our new year with a meeting at the Center of the Yarniverse's new space in the Ashland Coffee 'n Tea building. What an ideal space for a yarn shop!!!!!
New Business:
PLEASE NOTE: Center of the Yarniverse is organizing a bus to go to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival May 2. It also runs through May 3rd. Will update this info if the bus trip is for the 3rd. Cost is $75 Sign up NOW at the shop!
Prior to the yarn shop opening, and our meeting starting, the planning committee met for "2nd breakfast" in the tea room, to discuss our calendar of programs. Click here to go to the "Coming Events 2020" page.
Reminders: Martha is having a trunk show of her hand-dyed yarns, at Yarn Matters, 7437 Richmond Rd, Williamsburg, VA 23188, Sunday, 1-26-20. You will also see there, some of the projects our members have knit using her exquisite fibers!
February meeting will be held at Covenant Woods retirement facility, 7090 Covenant Woods Dr, off Lee-Davis Rd.
Show "N Tell:
Maria is making sox to match hat/scarf sets another relative is making for Christmas gifts next year. That's what's called an "early start" to Christmas shopping! From Martha's yarn collection she has also made a triangle shawl, in garter stitch, bound off with a picot edge, using Martha's Chocolate and Roses colors. Yummy!
Jeri has yarn in a beautiful raspberry color, with sequins already worked into it. Forgot to write down the nature of the project as I was so dazzled by the color. duh!
Jennifer W. is making a baby blanket in a soft sage green, Cascade Superwash Merino, in a basket weave pattern that she has adapted from a smaller size. She's planning for it to be a bit bigger than crib size. She also showed us a triangle shawl made with Martha's Strawberry and Lemonade yarn, which will be on display at Martha's trunk show at Yarn Matters, 1-26-20.
Suzanne Th. is working on a triangular scarf in teal, turquoise, and white, called "Paint the Town. Fiber is Zoey brand linen and cotton. Click here to see the pattern on Ravelry. She also showed us a shawlette that she knit using Martha's fiber dyed in rich crimson.
Deb T. has started a sock! All other projects are currently in 'time out' a popular place for many of our projects. lol!
Martha is busy knitting up sample projects using her hand-dyed fibers for demonstrating how lovely they look made up with her yarns. The project on the needles this day was a 3-color triangle shawl called, "Be Mine" from a Center of the Yarniverse kit.
Brenda is working on a poncho.
Our adventurous Corky has embarked on an exquisite shortsleeved sweater that has a wide lace edge at the end of the sleeves and the bottom edge of the sweater, called "Mirasol' done on circular needles mostly in one piece until reaching sleeve level. The lace is knit separately then incorporated later in the construction process. The yarn has a slightly tweedy effect in shades of light pink. She also finished a red shawlette in yarn, called"Close to You" for Martha's trunk show.
Elaine B. has finally arrived at the last pattern segment of the Building with Lace shawl. Whew! Hope to be able to show it finished and blocked at the next meeting!
