Meeting 2-15-20 First meeting at Covenant Woods :-)
What a beautiful facility for our meetings! And we received a warm welcome from some of the resident knitters that we hope will become regular members of our guild!
Old Business:
We decided a vote should be taken on a number of issues:
1. to continue meeting at this facility, Resultant vote: a resounding YES
2. should we hold our June picnic here, Resultant vote: a resounding YES
3. Several aspects of dues up for discussion and vote;
-should we charge dues to CW residents, Resultant vote: a resounding NO
- should we modify our dues structure, Resultant vote: mixed....need further discussion
4. should we have membership badges, if so pin type or magnetic: Resultant vote: YES / Madbetuc
[These have been ordered and should be available for distribution at our next meeting.]
Update on our April Field Trip to Untangled Purls, Fredericksburg. We are confirmed for a hour long introductory lesson on brioche for April 18th at 1:00. There are places for lunch close by, so that hour gives us plenty of time to arrive stress-free and have lunch. Participants are asked to bring 2 different colors or DK yarn and appropriate needles for that weight.
Treasurers Report:
We currently have $1855, and no debt.
New Business:
We welcome new members, Bette, Katy, Pat T., Liz, and Julia! We look forward to getting to know you as we continue to meet. The resident group of knitters are called, The Knit Wits. Hopefully we'll be meeting more of them at our next meeting.
Our CW members have shared info with us ifo about a craft fair in November. The CW community gets 20% of the proceeds and the crafter keeps the rest. Since we are a non-profit group, if we participate, any proceeds would go into our treasury to contribute to a future project or presenter.
As a side note: some of us bought lunch at "The Bistro" across from the meeting room. The food was absolutely delicious, [especially the chocolate chip cookies], and the prices were unbelievably economical! This will become a regular part of my meeting for sure!
Show 'n Tell:
- Julia is making a blanket using some of the yarn in the community stash, a gift from a deceased group member.
- Bette is using yarn in variegated blues on a blanket.
- Liz is making coasters.
- Pat, who usually prefers knitting sweaters, is making stuffed animals, currently working on Sesame Street character, Ralph the dog, to join her collection which also includes Bird Bird. Very cool!
- Katy was working on baby items for a shower...matching shorts for Mom and baby girl! Cute idea!
- Maria continues her Christmas 2020 gift collection making a baby blanket in pastel blue. She modeled her shawl-sweater, and has provided us all with the pattern, since we all loved it! She also showed us the triangle shawl in shades of orange, using Martha's hand-dyed yarn, and black with leftover bits of reds, and blues that she made for a sample for Martha's Trunk show.
- Lydia is working on an afghan knit in cream color squares. Each square is a different pattern, so the end result will be a sort of "sampler."
- Brenda is knitting a dark blue shawl in variegated tones. Lovely!
- Mary is still working on her lace sampleer in white.
- Deb's fingers are getting a rest while her projects vacation in time out.
- Corky modeled her newest finished creation, her short-sleeved pink sweater with lace band at the sleeve edge and the bottom edge of the sweater.
- Susan started a new pair of socks using variegated naby with bits of green and red-orange.
- Jennifer is working on a baby hat for the charity project, and showed us a shawl made with yellow and orange yarn, hand-dyed by Martha. Looks delicious!
Here's a glimpse at our new members and a perennial favorite!
