Next meeting program: 4-21-18 Field trip to Dances with Wool, carpooling info click here
Program: Many thanks to Mr. Durrell Domacei for his explanation of the color wheel and how to know which colors
would work best with which other colors. Click here for the page on the details of our program for today:
Durrel Domacei, Color theory, retired Art Prof. , VCU
Or....go to our Help! Found under "HKG Favorite Sites" link above.
Show 'n Tell:
- Andrée finished her Crazed Scandanavian infinity cowl. So impressive! Red and white for part, then switching to red and multi, then multi and light blue, then purple with red. These colors flowed so well from one to the next. Continuing putting us to shame, she is currently working on a scarf, called "Mosaic Madness" in dark, jewel tone stripes. The interesting detail is the 'drop stitch' effect that pulls one color into the one below. A future program for that pattern. Keep watching this site for more info on that! :-)
- Suzanne T. is working on a lovely, light-looking, lacy shrug, Avana, by Anne Claire, in turquoise. Her lace knitting classes at Dances with Wool have obviously been very successful!
- Linda finished her crochet corner-to-corner afghan, huge 50" x 100"!!! With striking color contrasts, rich reds in middle with gradient shades of grey for the corners. She has just started a sweater in black! Good luck working with black yarn!!!
- Gene is juggling two projects: a beige-chartreuse-gray self-striping afghan, and a Steven West cowl, "Daybreak" in dark forest green with bands of stripes in light blue and greyish pink.
- Deb B. finished her crocheted afghan, striped in shades of middle blue with purples.
- Becky is going great guns on her multi-colored entrelac scarf. Maybe we'll see it finished next meeting. [No pressure, Becky! lol]
- Elaine K. finished a baby blanket in the cuddliest shade of soft lavender. The pattern looked very intricate with blocks of one size basket weave adjacent to blocks of other sizes of basket weave. The overall effect makes for an heirloom level gift.
- Elaine B. is struggling with entrelac, but the end product, a cowl, will be ready by next meeting, come what may!!!
- Deb T. is working on a stockinette stitch crescent scarf in shades of beige fading into dark green, then to turquoise, then darker blue, the dark brown, then a lighter, warm brown, and she plans to keep going until she runs out of yarn! Can't wait to see it! Thanks to Becky, here's the Ravelry link for the pattern. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/one-skein-wonder-3
- Susan S. modeled a warm, medium brown, tweed sweater with subtle cables. Needless to say, we all want that pattern, so it can be found on Ravelry, called "Traveler's Cardigan". Look for the one by Nancy Bush as several cardigans have that name.
She has also started a black sweater, the body for which is already done. Now she is working on the sleeves.
Our meeting ended with a clever birthday game, for which the 4 winners each got a handmade birdhouse! How appropriate for a spring meeting. Oh, wait, it's still not spring yet here in Mechanicsville, Va!!!! Will we ever have spring!
