Nov. 17th @ Ashland Coffee & Tea, sit 'n knit, Attending: 11
-with strolls over to Center of the Yarniverse to browse.
Old Business:
- planning for holiday party underway, click here > Dec.8th for info
- Martha brought in some of the absolutely, eye-droppingly gorgeous yarns she has been dyeing, for sale at $25 per skein, about 464yds
per skein of sock yarn. After explaining the intensive process she goes through, that price is very much a bargain!
Save your After-Christmas-Sales money for the next time she brings in fiber!!! You'll be glad you did!
NEW Business:
- be thinking about what you'd like our guild to do in 2019, we need to get a tentative calendar ready soon.
so far, proposed are:
- field trips to Untangled Purls, Fredericksburg; and to Yarn Club in VA Beach.
- workshop on blocking,
- workshop of lace knitting
- the consensus was that Sit 'n Knits are very enjoyable, so that not every meeting has to have a program.
- the idea was floated that if we are going to pay for an instructor to present a program, we should enlist the support of other knitting
groups. This of course will involve lots of planning and lots of advanced time, possibly 6 months, so we'd need to start now to plan any
combined event for next fall. Planning this will require a committed cohort of members to plan, implement, and follow through. If you
vote for a program, know you are voting to actively participate in advancing it's execution.
- [$25] annual dues are being accepted now. Checks are preferred and will be accepted at our holiday party, as well as, the Jan. meeting,
at the latest.
Show 'n Tell:
- Corky has been knitting items for her church "Fiber Ministry" including prayer shawls, hats & scarves for the homeless, sanitary supplies for girls in Haiti who sadly must use washable/reuseable items, scarves for terminally ill men, hats for chemo patients, and washcloths for baptisms. Corky will gladly accept any quantity of yarns, we might be able to find in our stashes, for her church family to use in support of this ministry.
-Marie modeled a charcoal shrug. knit for a relative, that though plain in the front had a gorgeous surprise panel of oak leaves, up the middle of the back. Knit all in one piece, sides are then sewn together, with stitches picked up for the 'cuff'. This was a Madeline Tosh pattern with many requests for a copy.
- Elaine B. is on the last sleeve of the red Irish knit sweater for a great-nephew. As of this writing, the completed sweater is awaiting shipping.
-Susan S. if working on a scarf, gansy style, in linen, a beautiful shade of Williamsburg blue.
- News of Lydia, our delightful, nimble-fingered octogenarian is just back from a recent trip to Argentina, where she has been busy knitting gifts for family. Can't wait to see her at the party next month!
- Becky is still working on her Mosaic Mania scarf. It is getting close to completionn so we were able to see how marvelous the colors chosen are working!
- Deb T. has been working on tiny red hats for the Heart Assoc. Red Hats for Newborns in Feb. We all need to get started on our contributions if we are going to catch up to her!
- Suzanne Th. modelled a poncho in heather blue, designed by Tamara Gibbons and called "Berry Nice Poncho".
- Jenn. W. is crocheting a prayer shawl for a church ministry in shades of yellow, from pale lemon to a bright sunny shade, to a deep gold shade.
- Mary wore a beautifully knit, heathery green sweater, with a complementary green "hitchhiker" type scarf over it. ....always love to see what she wears to our meetings! Sigh... to have such skill!!! Green with envy. She is also working on a scarf for charity in a greyish green, mohair like fiber.
That's all folks! See you at the party! :-)
