3-18-17 19 Attending Volunteer Update TBD
Old News:
Treasurer's report: roughly $2200 currently. We will be sending the church a donation in June at the half year point: $225; and giving our presenter today an honorarium TBD.
Reminder about the Powhatan Fiber Festival to be held April 29th. check it out > http://www.powhatansfestivaloffiber.com/
Charity:
Renée has donated a tub of yarn from a deceased friend. The yarn may be used for charity or personal purposes. Using it carries on a piece of what her friend started. Nice "en memoriam!"
Newcomers:
Visiting with us today are Dierdre, a friend of Amy; and Linda, a friend of Elke. Welcome All!
Show 'n Tell: [See photos in the slideshow at the end of this page.]
- Becky is working on her 'doodler' scarf. It looks like the finished product could be Show 'n Tell for next month. lol, no pressure! :-)
- Amy is working on a 'sorcerer's scarf'.....Harry Potter is still popular!
- Deidre, our guest, who only uses yarn dyed by Amy, is working on a cowl by Campside.
- Jennifer is still making market bags for charity. Someone is going to really be delighted to get one of those!
- Elaine K. is working with cakes of gradient colors, in cotton, lovely product!
- Mary modeled an absolutely stunning, mohair crescent shawl in shades of grey, with colorful sequins incorporated into the charcoal
segment. It started from a kit from 'Yarn Club" but the artist in her couldn't resist adding her personal modification by adding the thread
with sequins. Awesome decision!
- Suzanne S. is working on a project with yarn from Shady Nook Alpaca farm, Powhatan, Va. .....lovely, super-soft fiber, the kind you can't
resist sliding across your cheeks! :-)
- Marie modeled a mini-shawl embellished with her signature touch....a shawl pin with matching earrings in coordinating colors. So
uniquely Marie!
- Corky showed us an exquisite lace scarf made from Katja brand linen fiber, for her granddaughter. From a distance the shawl looked like
bronze, but in hand it was revealed to have may colors, including a metallic thread. Granddaughter is one lucky girl to have such a
talented and generous grandmother!
- Deb B. is crocheting an afghan with interesting stitches. It looks as though the color of one row pops up into another row to give almost a
herringbone effect. Nicely masculine.
- Deb T. is almost finished her first sock. All that's left to do is the heel. She explained to us a bit about the method of making this sock,
using Bavarian Knitting, which involves knitting to the heel, putting the stitches that need to turn onto scrap yarn, then continuing on the
top, then returning to finish the heel. Sounds a lot less scary to this non-sock knitter!
- Martha is working on adorable washcloths with a sheep knit in as texture. In addition, she is working on a "bee keepers" quilt which
enables her to use up lots of her scrap yarn.
- Elke showed us a hat she made for her son.
- Lydia, our oh-so-creative-master-knitter showed us a collection of 7 baby hats she knit with just one skein of cream yarn.....each a different
pattern....of her own design!!!!! We are all in awe of her talent!
- María is diligently moving through the Crazed Scandanavian in order to be able to coach us through our own....only 2 squares left to
complete. This pattern is definitely an exercise in persistence! We all appreciated María taking on coaching this project.
- Suzanne St. is also working on a 'doodler' scarf using the yarn she dyed herself at Christina Parker's dying workshop.
- Renée's doodler is about half done. She plans to incorporated beads with a little coaching from Christine at today's workshop. She modeled
a beautiful triangle scarf that she recommended for when knitting with a group as only the edge stitches require close attention.
Program:
Christina Parker will be covering a wide range of tips, techniques, and be a problem-solver extraordinaire. What she has to offer is so vast it needs a page of it's own. Click this link to continue.
