We are off to a great start with our charity donations for this year. Great job, everyone! :-)
Old Business:
- We are confirmed for a field trip to Dances with Wool in April. At the March meeting we'll agree on a good time to meet at the church for
carpooling.
- Mary is working on adding color to our guild logo to add to our Ravelry page and membership cards.
-Announcement from River City Knitters, contact Mary or click here, re: a 2-day workshop with Candace Eisner, March 17-18, $75
- Becky and Elaine K. are in contact with designer, Laura Aylor, from Lynchburg, about the possibilities of doing a program for us. Way to go
Becky and Elaine!
About the Gloucester Retreat: It was w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l ... as usual. Not as many participants as usual, but those in attendance had a delightful buffet, great fellowship, and everyone went home with a least one prize, most won 2!!!! Dirt Woman and The Wren's Daughter were generous, as always, with their prize donations. Is it any wonder they are two of our favorite fiber sources!
Corky passed on a request from Henrico Doctors hospital who are looking for a volunteer to teach knitting to expectant moms who are bedridden in hospital.
Show 'n Tell:
- Susan S. started us off, showing her scarf of softly muted heather colors, from Coordinated Colors, Rte. 17. Gloucester. Sadly
that store has recently closed it's door for the absolute final time.
- Deb T. has really taken the Baby Red Hat challenge to heart, bringing in another pile of hats.
- Deb B. Has crocheted red hats and during the meeting provided some crochet instruction as well. Her glorious afghan, shown to us in Jan.
is done except for the final edging. She'll be glad to have it totally finished, for sure, with a tremendous glow of pride in accomplishment.
- Elaine B. has knit 5 premie hats, still strugging with double pointed needles, swearing next time to follow Suzanne T. suggestion to use
circular needles instead! The long, in-progress, green Irish knit sweater is in the home stretch. It will be worn by the recipient on St. Pat's
Day.
- Suzanne K. has been quite busy. She has bought yarn for weaving and is knitting an infinity scarf with heavy fingering in heather greens.
- Corky is knitting a crescent scarf in bright metallic variegated yarns, from Kim Dyes, sold at Dances With Wool. The pattern is from the
book One Skein Wonders. Corky is enjoying her lace lessons at Dances With Wool. We are eagerly anticipating seeing her finished project.
She recommends the book, Building With Lace, see Corky for the author's name.
- Marie made a red hat on a circle loom. Maybe a program in the making from Marie????? Good idea, no? She is also working on a triangle
scarf in white, blue, and green variegated yarn.
- Linda is making a red, lapghan from just 3 large skeins of yarn. It will be crocheted in the "corner to corner" manner, creating a basket-
weave affect.
- Gene is making an infinity shawl from the yarn he got at the Gloucester retreat from Dirt Woman, in lovely, soft, heathery colors of light
browns to almond to brown sugar. He also has another afghan going in self stripes of grey, chatreuse, beige, and orange...much prettier
than it sounds.
The remainder of the meeting was a leisurely sit and knit, fueled with yummy cookies homemade by Elke. It was so nice to have the time not just to socialize, but to share our ideas and expertise. Definitely something we should include in our calendar every year at least once or twice.
NEXT MEETING: March 17th
VCU Art Professor, Darrell Domacei, will help us understand how to use the color wheel to select compatible colors for our fiber projects. Suzanne T. facilitates. I wonder how much GREEN will figure into the session. lol
